For this project 950 trees and shrubs where planted to give a new lease of life to the Old Abbatoir in Valletta across a roof area of 495 m² of this 400-year-old building.
A number of indigenous plants were used for this roof garden which are adapted to the Mediterranean climate: Olive tree (Olea europaea spp), carob (Ceratonia siliqua), holm oak (Quercus ilex), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), and Viburnum (Viburnum tinus).
We have also included a natural pond with papyrus plants, water lilies and freshwater fish. Our work for the Valletta Design Cluster also includes a vertical garden several metres high.
